I am using this blog primarily to:
- Organize my thoughts primarily on crypto and traditional finance.
- Learn from those who know more than me (for the size of this category, I suggest revisiting the title of this blog).
- Assist anyone who might be trying to self-educate on the topics covered
- Have some accountability for my opinions, and a record of how my thoughts and positions evolve.
- Get more practice writing, a crucial skill in my day-to-day.
- Create an alternative record of my marketable abilities to hedge against job loss.
All of these reasons have spurred me to finally putting myself online. The idea for this blog comes from a realization in early 2020 about the mismatch between my perceived knowledge and actual knowledge. I had considered myself pretty competent about crypto, but when a friend asked my opinion on An (Institutional) Investor’s Take on Cryptoassets, I struggled to fully comprehend basic concepts in the paper. I spent several days educating myself enough to answer my friend coherently. In doing so, I wrote more than a dozen pages of text to myself that not only helped me to learn about the ideas presented, but to organize and support my opinions on the topic. During the process, a voice in my head mused that putting my thoughts online might not be a bad idea.
